Rarely do you get to compare times in cross country because every course is different; however, earlier this season, we raced the same course at Douglas, where this week’s Black Hills Conference meet was held, Thursday, Oct. 6. This was  advantageous for the Rangers, as we were able to see how we have progressed throughout the season.

On the boys side, Jac Cutler and Drew Hanson both had over two-minute personal records for the course. Cutler covered the course in an official time of 18:17 and Hanson in 19:15.

On the girls side, we won the Black Hills Conference meet! The six ladies who made up this championship team are Karlee Simmons, Marion Hohn, Skylar Ross, Brandy Straw, Taleigh Adrian and Makaley Anderson. All six of these ladies had a personal record for the course and laid it on the line for their teammates to bring home the conference title.

Four of these ladies were all conference — Marion Hohn, Skylar Ross, Brandy Straw and Karlee Simmons. Simmons was also the 2016 Black Hills Conference champion, covering the course in 18:51.50.

The Rangers’ next race will be on Thursday in Custer at the Region Meet, beginning at 2 p.m. The region meet is the only way a runner and a team can qualify for state.

I’d like to encourage as many of you as possible to come and support our student athletes!
