Girls XC team qualifies for state

RUNNING FOR FIRST — Even though she ran with Custer’s Mallory Delmont, left, and St. Thomas More’s Haleigh Timmer (not pictured) for most of the race, Karlee Simmons, right, easily passed her two opponents, giving her the Region 5A championship title.  Simmons took first in 20:06, a second faster than Timmer and 20 seconds faster than Delmont. Simmons’ win, as well as three other runners’ finish in the top 20 standings, qualified the team to compete at the state “A” cross country meet this weekend. Competing for the girls will be Simmons, Marion Hohn, Skylar Ross, Brandy Straw, Taleigh Adrian and Makaley Anderson. Also competing will be Jac Cutler, the lone state qualifier for the boys team.
