A shot was fired in an altercation in Hill City at approximately 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 9. The incident involving Hill City resident, Gordon “Gordy” Collins, Jr, occurred just outside the Dollar General at 681 Main Street. Reportedly, the confrontation occurred over a vehicle repossession. No one was injured in the incident.

After the altercation, Collins retreated to his residence next door. Four Pennington County Sherrif units responded to the call and were joined at the scene by Highway Patrol and Forest Service law enforcement officers.

These officers ensured neighbors and bystanders were kept at a safe distance during the next few tense hours before they secured the suspect.

Collins was charged with aggravated assault and taken to the Pennington County Jail. He has since been released on bond.

The incident remains under investigation.
