The Hill City junior varsity team defeated Canton junior varsity team 46-37 on Dec. 29 in Canton.

Noah Krull led the Ranger squad with 13 points, nine rebounds and four assists. Taylor Edwards had 13 points, eight rebounds and three assists.  Michal Satter had eight points, Hayden Hannas had four, Noe Escalante and Dawson Clemetson each had three points and Jemal Klaiber had two.

The Varsity squad lost 58-31 to Canton.

Canton started out with a 15-0 lead before the Rangers brought the score to 25-9 at the end of the first quarter. Despite being outscored by only two points in the second half, the deficit was too much for the Rangers to overcome.

Taylor Edwards was the leading scorer for the Rangers with 10 points.  Ryan Skillingstad scored seven points and grabbed six rebounds. Jac Cutler scored seven points and drew a charge, Chance Simmons had six and Jacob Harris had one.

Against Canton, we learned that we need to be ready to play from the opening tip.  You can’t spot a good team 15 points.

On Friday, Dec. 30, the Rangers completed their road trip in Winner. Hill City played a very competitive first half and trailed by eight points to Winner, who was ranked fifth in the preseason polls.

The Rangers were outscored 15-4 in the third quarter and would lose 46-67.

Ryan Skillingstad had a solid game scoring 18 points, nine rebounds, and three assists. Noah Krull scored 12 points while Noe Escalante, Chance Simmons and Taylor Edwards added four points each.

Against Winner, we learned that we can compete with a top five team, but we have to play hard for both halves. I really like our guys and the progress that we are making.

I thought the trip was a good experience for us and we played two really good teams.
