Neal H. Hodges was born on Jan. 19, 1925, in Doxey, Okla. He was the youngest of seven children born to Samuel and Minnie Hodges.
He joined the Army Air Corps in 1943, right out of high school. He served as a radio operator and waist gunner on B52s during WWII. Neal retired from the USAF after 26 years of service.
In 1970, he bought the Three Forks Store and also created and operated the Three Forks Campground for 23 years. He retired for the second time and began woodworking projects for his family.
Neal H. Hodges died Feb. 18, 2017. He was 92 years old.
Neal was preceded in death by his first wife, Alyce A. O’Bryan Hodges and a step daughter, Sharon Heil Larson.
Neal is survived by his wife, Rose; children, Neal Hodges II (Suwanna), Guida (Tom), Peggy (Jim), James (Lucille), Matthew and Baard; step-children, Kathy (Doug), Jim (Carol), Larry (Sue), Dianne (John), Patty (Mark) and Jay; as well as many, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23, at Kirk Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 24, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Black Hills National Cemetery. A memorial will be established by the family.
