This July marks the 80th year since the McVey Fire.

The McVey Fire threatened Hill City, and boys from the school came out and battled the fire.

Because of their bravery, the school’s athletics teams are known as the “Rangers,” and the Rangers are the only school that are allowed to use Smokey Bear as a mascot.

The Hill City Board of Education is looking for surviving students who battled the fire. The students would have been in the graduating classes of 1939 to 1943.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Owen Wiederhold at 209-1315.
