What is going to set your attitude in 2018?

By Brian Anderson

Another year is almost done and many of you, like me, will take a few minutes and look back at 2017 to decide just what kind of year it has been.  For me it has been a time of stretching and growing.  Stretching and growth are not always fun, but through them I have become a better person.

How about you? Was 2017 a good year or a bad year?  What set of standards will you use to decide?  Will it be the money you have in savings and investments? Will it be in what has given you pleasure?  Or maybe it will be about time with family and friends? Still it comes down to how you feel about your own personal life and the attitude you hold.

For me it is my attitude that counts on how I look at life. There is one thing I know for sure in my life and that is my attitude makes a difference.  Like you, I am human and I have good days and bad days and that is called life.  The key to life is found in my attitude and what my attitude is, is really my choice. I cannot control the weather, or the economy, or even how others treat me, but I can and do control my attitude.

Attitude for me is based on who walks with me and who I trust.  My attitude is found first in my relationship with God.  I just see what has happened around me and how I feel about it, but God sees the big picture.  He sees my past, he sees my daily life, and he knows what waits for me around the corner.  I said earlier that this has been a year of being stretched for me.  Yet I have found two things that help my attitude.

Number one, that there are people who love me and care about me. They make it a point to reach out and check on me.  The have the courage to ask the hard question and wait for my answers.  Yes, I believe that friends can and do make a difference in our lives.  My attitude in 2018, then, must include being a true friend.

Number two, is really found in my walk and relationship with God. Let me share what God says and I stand on this promise to guide my attitude.

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. Don’t be impressed with your own wisdom.  Instead, fear the LORD and turn away from evil. Then you will have healing for your body and strength for your bones.”

Proverbs 3:5-8 New Living Translation (NLT)

What is going to set your attitude in 2018?  I do hope that you have a circle of people who love you and care about you.  I hope that you will let them speak into your life.  It is my prayer that you will make time and room for God in your life. He loves you and wants to be a part of your life and as you put your faith and trust in Him, you will find that it will truly help your attitude.

Happy New Year,
