10 years ago, 2012 —The Custer Stampede auction featured a variety of artwork, including new pieces to the auction and some old favorites. The first items to go for auction were the 13 free form pieces, ranging from paintings, sculptures and even three bas-relief woodcarvings, which were sold separately, crafted by Jack Shillingstad of Belle Fourche. This was the first time woodcarvings were in the free form category and they brought in an average of $1,800.
