Thursday, May 30
7:02 p.m.: A “Buffalo stampede” and an overturned car were reported in the Blue Bell area in Custer State Park. Though deputies, park units and an ambulance were sent to the area, no one found anything. The third-hand report was eventually deemed to be bogus. It’s going to be a long summer.     

10 years ago, 2014 — Terry and Sandra Johnson, Boot Hill homeowners for the past seven years, said they have paid “between $5,500 and $6,000 in property taxes every year since they moved here.”  The Johnsons said they had to take on part-time jobs just to pay their property taxes. For the seven years they’ve lived here, “that’s $40,000 in property taxes alone,” Terry said. They question why their property taxes are so high. Pete Burkett, another  county homeowner, said, “I specifically chose a property outside the city because taxes are way too high in the city.

Saturday, May 25
The 911 Misdial of the Day: A phone in the process of “hooking up” to a car somehow dialed the emergency line. This sounds kind of dirty, but it’s not.
2:05 a.m.: A deputy checked out a 911 hang-up cal from a downtown Custer drink den. Two patrons there had been arguing over car keys. The deputy sent them on their way.
6:12 a.m.: Fire alarms went off at Valley-Hi Apartments in Custer. A deputy helped find the source of the commotion: smoking food on a stovetop. No one was hurt there and things soon got back to normal.
