An innovative and cooperative effort between Custer County Search and Rescue (CCSAR) and Black Hills Back Country Horsemen (BCH) is making huge strides toward opening the trails in the Black Elk Wilderness, demonstrating the vital role that these often-overlooked volunteer forces play in the National Forest and Black Elk Wilderness. Both of these organizations, though with different stated goals and objectives, came together around a need that affected both of them: clear trails for wilderness users.
