Live on Stage wraps up season

It was a who’s who of Hill City at the final Live on Stage this past weekend. About 185 people packed into High Country Guest Ranch to hear the artistry of John Stam, Steve Linde, Lea Mae and Brent Morris with Paul Larson. 
Also on hand was poet Sherl Cederburg, who delighted audience members with a wide variety of poems. Cederburg writes  personal experiences like taking her family dancing as well as more difficult subjects, like the tragedy of 9-11 .She even wrote about the buffalo who unpanted a biker in Custer State Park a few summers ago.

More than a vegetable garden

Soon gardeners will be hard at work in the acreage behind Community Lutheran Church. There lies a community garden where both church and community members can purchase a plot of land for the summer to plant a personal garden. 
The garden has two campuses. The first is an open campus where gardeners can use whatever techniques they prefer. The second is an organic campus. These campuses are surrounded by tall fences and sealed with both metal and ornate wooden gates to keep out the deer and any other critters who may enjoy sampling produce.  

Trader has new restaurant feature

The Western Trader, the supplemental shopper inserted into both the Custer County Chronicle and the Hill City Prevailer News, has a new feature starting this week. Located on the back page is  “Black Hills EATS,” a guide to local restaurants in Custer, Hill City and Keystone.
The listings include the name of restaurants in each town, along with the hours they are open. If you’ve ever wondered “where’s a good place to eat?” or “what’s open?” the guide will be a useful tool to answer that question.

— Hill City High School’s Bob Burden Gym was packed with vendors and collectors from accorss the region for the 10th Annual Hill City Antique/Railroad Show & Appraisal on Saturday, March 19. The Event coordinator Pat Belczak estimated that this was the highest turnout for the event, raising approximately $1,000 to split between the Hill City Senior Center and the South Dakota State Railroad Museum.

— Hill City was named the most beautiful town in South Dakota by viewfinder, a travel blog owned by Expedia. The blog detailed the town’s start as a frontier town and later as a railroad stop. The viewfinder’s mission was to pinpoint the most beautiful places to travel in every state that may not be on travelers’ radar.
