Brown to remain Custer mayor

Bob Brown will serve another two-year term as mayor of the City of Custer after winning Tuesday’s election. Brown received 438 votes in the election, compared to 145 received by challenger Gary Carr.
In the other race in the City of Custer, alderwoman Peg Ryan will serve another two-year term after she held off challenger Faith Lewis for a seat in Ward III of the Custer City Council by a 153-104 vote.
In the heavily debated proposed nuisance ordinance for Custer County, voters decided by a 801 to 609 vote to declare the discharge of any treated wastewater from the City of Custer’s wastewater treatment plant into French Creek or its tributaries within Custer County as a nuisance. This means the ordinance will be adopted by Custer County, although whether or not the ordinance can be enforced has been questioned by state’s attorney Tracy Kelley.
In the Town of Hermosa, Donna Ferguson was victorious in the race for a two-year term on the town board, defeating Brad Westergard by a 78-67 vote.
In the race for a pair of three-year terms, it was Jerry Styles and incumbent Vicki Henrichsen who were victorious, gathering 77 and 68 votes, respectively. The two other candidates in the race, Shanna Harris and Chuck Irvine, received 65 and 60 votes, respectively.
On the ballot issues in Hermosa, the voters decided in favor of allowing chickens in town for the purpose of egg production by a vote of 94-54, while also approving term limits  on the town’s board of trustees. That vote came 92-59.
