Celebrate the 150th birthday of Custer Aug. 10
Celebrate the 150th birthday of Custer City Sunday, Aug. 10, from 2-4 p.m. with the Custer County Historical Society the 1881 Courthouse Museum. Activities will include the reading of a proclamation, raffle drawing, kid’s activities and, of course, birthday cake and ice cream.
There will also be a historic walking tour through downtown Custer. The stops include the 1881 Courthhouse (now a museum), the Garlock Opera House (now South Dakota Outdoor Shop), George Palmer’s Saloon (now Baker’s Bakery), the Kleeman House, the YMCA building, First National Bank (now Horatio’s Homemade Ice Cream), the Heidepriem Building (now the senior center) and the Garlock Building (now the Custer County Chronicle office).
The day will also feature special guest and wet plate photographer Dave Rambow as well as book signings by Paul Horsted and David Wolff.
At Way Park, the Custer Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting children’s activities from 12-4 p.m. This will included face painting, a scavenger hunt and other family friendly activities.
Everyone is invited to celebrate this momentous milestone in the history of Custer City.
