Chip seal project starts July 27

The city’s street pavement preservation project to resurface roadways with a chip and fog seal application is set to begin on Wednesday, July 27. The maintenance work increases the pavement life, provides better traction and improves the appearance of the street.
The contractor will sweep the street, spray an emulsified oil, followed immediately with a rock chip. The contractor will then return in a few days to sweep away any excess chip and spray a light fog seal oil to further protect the road.
Chip Seal Information:
• The area to be resurfaced with this project includes areas of Summit Street. Homestead Drive, Ponderosa Street. N. 10th Street and areas north of Montgomery Street including N. 8th Street, N. 7th Street, Young Drive, N. 8th Street and Victory Lane.
• Please do not park on the street until after the fog seal has been completed.
• Do not water grass, wash your car or allow water to run into the street on the day of or 24 hours after the chip seal/fog seal is completed. This will keep the asphalt from bleeding through the gravel chips into the gutter or being picked up by tires and carried on to your driveway.
• There will be short delays while the chip seal is being put down and during the fog sealing.
• Remember to drive slow down the roads until the chips are swept. This will prevent damage to vehicle windshields and car paint. Children on bicycles and motorcyclists are cautioned to take extra care and to avoid sharp turns. Drivers are asked to avoid sharp turns into and out of their driveways for the first 24 hours after the chip has been laid down.
• For your safety and the safety of the street crews the city asks you follow directions from the personnel directing traffic and obey construction signs and drive cautiously when near construction equipment.
