Houses of worship across Custer County are planning special services this week to celebrate the birth of Jesus. And, with Christmas Day falling on a Sunday this year, it appears most will be holding services on the day itself.
Mountainview Baptist Church of Custer is starting its celebration on Thursday evening with Christmas caroling at 6 p.m. The church will also hold a Christmas Eve service at 7 p.m. on the 24th and its regular Sunday morning worship service on the 25th. There will be no evening service that day, however.
Custer Lutheran Fellowship is planning a Christmas Eve family service at 4 p.m. followed by a second service at 6 p.m. Both services will feature Holy Communion and candle lighting as the congregation sings “Silent Night.” On Christmas Day, the regular service will begin at 9:30 a.m.
Custer Community Church (United Church of Christ) will also hold its regular Sunday service at 9:30 a.m. on the 25th.
St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Custer will celebrate a Christmas Eve mass at 6:30 p.m. and a Christmas Day mass at 9:30 a.m.
No special services are planned for Southern Hills Bible Church, but worship on Christmas Day will begin at the usual time of 9:15 a.m.
Crossroads Church will hold two Christmas Eve services at 4 and 5:30 p.m. and cookies will be served. The next day, the church invites the community to come for a “comfy, cozy Christmas Day Service” at 10:10 a.m. preceded by a breakfast bake potluck at 9:30.
At Abundant Life Fellowship, which meets at the Custer Senior Center, Pastor Clark Struebing will be serving communion to individuals and families by appointment. A few 15-minute slots are still available between 8:15 a.m. and noon. Those interested in participating are asked to call 605-517-2881.
Amazing Grace Fellowship, which meets in the Pine Room at the Custer County Library, will hold its regular Sunday morning fellowship at 9:30 a.m. Christmas Day, followed by the worship service at 10.
Our Redeemer Lutheran Church will hold a Christmas Eve Lessons and Carols Candlelight Service at 7:30 p.m. and on Christmas Day will observe The Nativity of Our Lord, Divine Service at 10:00 a.m.
Living Outreach Church will not hold a service on Christmas Day.
Outside of the town of Custer, Pringle United Methodist Church will hold a Christmas Eve service with candle lighting and communion at 4 p.m. but will not hold a service on Christmas Day.
In Hermosa, St. Michael’s Catholic Church will celebrate mass on Christmas Day at 9 a.m. and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is offering several Christmas worship options. On Thursday, the church is planning a “quiet Christmas service,” designed for those seeking a quieter service to celebrate Christmas. It will begin at 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve services are planned for 4 and 6 p.m. on Saturday and the Christmas Day service is set for 9:30 a.m.
