Dallas Scott

Dallas Roy Scott was born Aug. 19, 1972, in Hot Springs, S.D., to Gerald and Kathleen (Brown) Scott. He was welcomed home to Custer by siblings Cynthia and Allen. He was baptized and confirmed at Custer (S.D.) Lutheran Fellowship.
He was a 10-year member of Custer County (S.D.) 4-H, as well as being in AAU wrestling, cross country and track. He graduated from Custer High School in 1991, and, that same year, was the recipient of the 4-H “Citizenship Washington Focus” Award Trip to Washington, D.C. He took classes to become an EMT and was a member of the Custer Ambulance for several years.
In 1993 he moved to Rapid City, S.D., where he met the love of his life, Denice Jackson. They married in Custer July 15, 1995, and went on to make their home in Box Elder, S.D. Here they had two children, Allissa and Kyle.
In 2001 they moved to Newell, S.D., to help Denice’s parents start their “Nogata Ranch.” Dallas’ love of wrestling was passed to both his children. He loved helping all the kids and was very active in AAU in Newell. He was very proud the tradition continues with his grandsons.
Family meant everything to Dallas. He was often heard quoting from Disney’s “Lilo and Stitch” – Ohana means family…in a perfect Stitch voice imitation! His greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren. He was their biggest “cheerleader” for their activities. He loved playing with them, teaching them to fish or just having quiet time with his “Snuggle Buddies.”
Dallas worked various jobs over the years; for the last eight-and-a-half years being employed by Great Western Tire in Spearfish, S.D. He often said he “didn’t love his job,” but he did love his co-workers and customers. Dallas was a very giving person, always willing to help anyway he could.
On May 2, 2024, Dallas was involved in a tragic accident. He was 51.
On May 4 his family honored his wishes to give of himself one last time through organ donation. They have been notified that at least four people have been blessed through his gift.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathleen; brother, Allen; grandparents, Ralph and Madge Scott and Elmer and Elfrieda Brown; unborn grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Grateful for having Dallas in their lives are his wife, Denice; children, Allissa (Greg) Riter of Newell and Kyle of Belle Fourche, S.D.; grandchildren, Criss, Kaisynn, Blakeleigh and Nataleigh Riter and Audrie Scott; father, Gerald Scott of New Effington, S.D.; sister, Cynthia (Steve) Bostrom of New Effington; uncle, Dennis (Betty) Brown of Spring Hill, Fla.; two nieces; one nephew; and many cousins and friends.
Memorial services will be Tuesday, May 28, at Kinkade Funeral Chapel in Sturgis, S.D. at 11 a.m.
