Donald Spencer
Donald Lee Spencer was born June 2, 1936, in Custer, S.D., to Miles and Kathryn (Richardson) Spencer. He attended school in Burdock, S.D., and then graduated from Edgemont (S.D.) High School in 1954. In 1959 he married Pat Weaver. They had one daughter, Diane Spencer.
Donald was first and foremost a rancher. He also worked for Silver King Mine hauling uranium and occasionally he hauled livestock in cattle pot. He was the director of FHA. Donald was in rodeo in high school and the NRCA and participated in the Old Timer Rodeo. He bulldogged, team roped and calf roped. He enjoyed team roping on weekends in Wyoming.
Donald, of Edgemont, S.D., passed away May 8, 2024, at his home. He was 87.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Pat of Edgemont; daughter, Diane (Howard Lamb) Spencer of Ericson, Neb.; grandson, Miles (Shayla Duarte) VanUden of Edgemont; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 20, at Edgemont United Church. Funeral services will follow at 2 p.m. with committal services at the Edgemont Cemetery.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Hot Springs.
