FCCLA hosts ‘Pink Out’

The Custer Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) chapter recently hosted a successful “Pink Out” event during both the Custer volleyball and football games to raise awareness and funds for the Black Hills Road Trip of Hope Foundation.
The event was organized by sophomore Molly Frederick-Medlen as part of her FCCLA Chapter Service Project, which focuses on helping a community cause with support from chapter members. The project combined teamwork, community spirit and leadership—core values of FCCLA.
Frederick-Medlen’s grandmother, Shari Frederick, donated a handmade quilt that was raffled off, and the chapter held a bake sale during the games. With the help of seven chapter members, the Custer community, CHS volleyball team and the Custer High School cheerleaders, the event raised nearly $1,000 for the Road Trip of Hope Foundation, which supports individuals and families affected by cancer in the Black Hills area.
Frederick-Medlen will present her project at the South Dakota FCCLA State Leadership Conference in Sioux Falls this April. If she places in the top two, she will advance to the National FCCLA Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., this July.
Frederick-Medlen and the Custer FCCLA Chapter extends a sincere thank you to the following individuals, businesses and supporters for their generosity and help in making this event possible: Dr. Brandy Tarap, Shari Frederick, Susan Hardina, Becky Lowe, The Buglin’ Bull, Custer Pizza Hut, Eileen’s Colossal Cookies, Salon 402, Lynn’s Dakotamart, Petals and Pages, Custer VFW, Arrow Service (Upton, Wyo.), Stitches Embroidery and Patch, Allure Salon, the Custer community, Custer County Chronicle, and the Custer High School cheerleaders.
