Gary Roberts

Gary Dennis Roberts was born March 26, 1948, in Highland Park, Mich., to Andrew and Patricia (Briggs) Roberts. After serving 20 years in nuclear submarines he retired in 1990 from the U.S. Navy.  He also retired from the Idaho National Laboratory as a quality assurance engineer.
Gary’s faith in Christ was reflected in the many ways he helped others and volunteered. While living in Idaho Falls he was active in the soup kitchen, church vestry and senior warden, kids camp, multiple mission trips and attended Education for Ministry.  After moving to Custer, S.D., he served at his church, Outlaw Ranch, the VFW and the Storehouse.
Gary enjoyed outdoor activities including camping, fishing and 4-wheeling.  He was skilled at taking electrical and mechanical things apart and fixing them. He loved playing cards with family and friends and attending community concerts. He enjoyed traveling the world and exploring new places.
Gary  passed away Feb. 20, 2024, in Custer. He was 75.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his son, Matthew.
Gary is survived by his wife, Carol, the love of his life for 55 years; his daughter, Amy (Joe) Hartel; grandchildren, Andrew (Sara), Victoria (Grant), Hope, and Grace; and great- grandchild, Christopher.
A celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 6 at Custer Lutheran Fellowship.
