Four days after he made a presentation before the Custer City Council to request additional support for the July 4 activities sponsored by the chamber and just over four months after he was hired, Monte Hartl has resigned as executive director of the Custer Area Chamber of Commerce.
Last Friday the chamber sent out a special email from the board of directors informing members that Hartl had submitted his resignation.
“We want to wish Monte the best of luck in his future endeavors,” the email read. “We are full-steam ahead for the upcoming events and tourist season. We are confident in the chamber staff’s abilities to meet our members’ needs now and in the future. In the interim, you can direct your chamber business needs to Dawn Murray.” Murray is the chamber’s office manager. Hartl was off the chamber’s staff webpage Tuesday morning.
Hartl declined to comment on his leaving when reached for comment.
“I will let (board president) Amy Bailey  speak on behalf of the chamber,” he said.
Bailey said the chamber board would have no further comment beyond the statement it released.
