Joyce Jindra

Born in San Antonio Texas, Joyce Jindra was raised in Albuquerque, N.M. She moved to Minneapolis, Minn., with her husband Ed (Ed’s home place) after their marriage in New Mexico in 1955. The two met at the Sandía Air Force base where Ed was stationed. She was the beloved mother of three daughters, Cynthia, Christine and Cheryl.
In 1978 Joyce and Ed moved to Custer, S.D., and were employed at Outlaw Ranch for many years, providing loving service to staff, campers and their community. As the food service coordinator, Joyce was instrumental in establishing healthy, nourishing meals, all with love and comfort. Her other passions over the years were pioneer women’s history, poetry and writings and being among nature. Her greatest loves were gardening and quilting. Joyce didn’t so much talk about love, it was embedded into her being. She loved people and didn’t get caught up in background, ethnicity, ability and so forth. For her, love and forgiveness were a given.
Joyce Jindra, a longtime resident of Custer, passed over peacefully Christmas Day Monday, Dec. 25, 2023. She was 88.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Edna Crider; her husband, Ed; grandsons, Jacob and Jesse; and great granddaughter, Latisa.
Joyce is survived by her three daughters, Cynthia (Wayne), Christine (Tim) and Cheryl; grandchildren, Tina, Josh, Sarah, Shawnequa, Cassie and Randi; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great granddaughter. She cared for and fostered many.
Services were Jan. 6 at Custer Lutheran Fellowship with Pastor Neil Magnuson from Crossroads Church officiating.
A memorial has been designated in Joyce’s memory.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.
