Keith Blume

Keith Ray Blume was born in Parkston, S.D., April 9, 1945, to Fredrick and Susan Blume. He joined four brothers.
He graduated high school from Armour, S.D., in 1964 and then went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Army from February 1966 until his honorable discharge in February 1970. Keith loved telling stories about his time spent in Germany.
He then moved to Custer, S.D., in the mid-’70s and set up home. He spent many years as a handy man, putting up drywall, painting and completing any jobs that needed done. He started work for the U.S. Postal Service as a maintenance employee in 1977, then moved to be the Custer City carrier until his retirement in 2005.
Keith was most happy while he was working and staying busy. He wore many hats. He was an active member of the Kenneth Kuper Post 3442 and spent many hours donating his time and labor.
Hunting season was a busy time around the Blume house. Keith processed meat for friends and family and kept the crockpot and coolers full for whoever stopped by.  Just know that when you showed up you were getting put to work.
He had a passion for gardening, canning, cooking and baking. His homemade bread and rolls were some of his specialties along with his pickles, rhubarb treats and his mother’s stuffing recipe.
