Marie Bachmeier

Marie (Abernathy) Bachmeier was born Jan. 20, 1956, in Deadwood, S.D. She grew up in Sturgis, S.D., until age 6, then in Rapid City, S.D. 
She attended Stevens High School, then the radiological technician program at St. John’s Hospital in Rapid City.
She was married to John Bachmeier Sept 4, 1976. They lived in Rapid City, then moved near Hermosa, S.D., in 1986. They moved to Sioux Falls, S.D., in 2015 to be near their grandchildren. She spent her life raising her children and her horses and farm animals. She had a passion for art, creating many beautiful things over the years, including miniatures and beautiful painted eggs. She was also curator at The Dakota Artist Guild in Rapid City for a time. 
Marie died July 3, 2020, at Ava’s House Hospice in Sioux Falls. She was 64.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Loraine Abernathy; niece, Dionne Marie; and grandnephew, Noah.
Marie is survived by her husband, John of Sioux Falls; her children, Keri (Matthew) Orstad of Sioux Falls and Abigail Oakwright of Olympia, Wash.; grandchildren, Elizabeth, Christopher, and Alexander; two special spiritually adopted sons, Clay and Coy Bifulco; sisters, Ellen (Darrell) Black of Casper, Wyo., Lynda (Michael) of Longview, Wash., and Rene Munro of Tenino, Wash.; mother-in-law, Joan Bachmeier of Sturgis; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. 
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Friday, July 10, at St. Lambert Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation with family present to greet friends will be from 5-7 p.m., with a 7 p.m., Liturgical Wake Service and Recitation of the Rosary Thursday, July 9 at George Boom Funeral Home & On-Site Crematory.
