Maudine Stamp

Maudine Pauline Augusta Roberts Stamp was born April 5, 1929, to Edward and Mae (Hebbert) Roberts in Dawes County, Chadron, Neb. She was the first of eight children. 
She attended various country schools and two in the city of Chadron. Midway through the fourth grade she came with her family to Custer, S.D. After fourth grade the family moved to Keystone, S.D. She attended school for three years in Keystone. The family then moved to Florence, S.D., where she attended school for 2-1/2 years. In her freshman year she left school to go to Minneapolis, Minn., where she worked as a waitress.
On Dec. 20, 1945, she was joined in marriage to Leonard Lauseng in Webster, S.D. To this union seven children were born. 
They farmed near South Shore, S.D., and Milbank, S.D., until 1950. They moved to Mora, Minn., where they farmed until 1957.
A serious health problem for Leonard forced them off the farm. In 1959 they moved to Pine City, Minn. Maudine worked as a waitress, cook, factory worker and finally, as a nurse’s aide until 1976.
She entered nursing school in Anoka, Minn., and graduated as an LPN in 1977. She worked one year in a nursing home and then at the Kanabec Hospital in Mora, Minn., until 1981 when Leonard was forced into retirement. They moved to Chadron, where Maudine worked in the hospital at Rushville, Neb., until 1985. Maudine then moved to Custer, where she worked at the developmental center until 1996 when it closed. She then retired.
On Oct. 11, 1997, she married Kenneth Stamp in Hill City, S.D. They lived in Custer until her death June 14, 2020. 
Maudine enjoyed camping, traveling and helping others. She visited 47 states, Canada, Israel, Sweden, Russia and Mexico. She was a member of Lighthouse Assembly of God Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mae Roberts; husbands, Leonard Lauseng and Kenneth Stamp; daughters, Wanda Gunderson and Penny Auers; great-granddaughter, Ash Chloe; daughter-in-law, Dorene Lauseng; five sisters; and one brother.
Maudine is survived by her children, LeRoy (Dorene) Lauseng of Chula Vista, Calif., Roselee (Donald) Blazek of Rush City, Minn., William Lauseng of Custer, Wendell (Joyce) Lauseng of Fairmont, Minn., and Cameron (Deborah) Lauseng of Brimfield, Ill.; son-in-law, Larry Auers; 21 grandchildren; 30 great- grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were June 22 at Lighthouse Assembly of God Church in Hill City.
Funeral services were June 24 at Olson Funeral Chapel in Rush City, Minn.
Maudine will be laid to rest at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery with her husband, Leonard Leroy Lauseng.  
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.
