A 34-year-old Custer County man has died in a shooting incident that happened the evening of March 27.
At 10:02 p.m. that evening an adult male called from his home in the Pass Creek Road area to report he had shot an intruder he said was attacking him. Custer County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the call, as did the Custer County Ambulance Service. The man who was shot was pronounced dead at the scene.
Custer County Sheriff Marty Mechaley responded to the scene, along with Lt. Jeff McGraw, Lt. Steve McMillin, and deputies Dave Clevenger and Kyle Sim. Mechaley said the man who shot the man has been cooperative with law enforcement.
No arrests have been made, Mechaley said. The sheriff’s office is investigating the incident, along with the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
Names of the parties involved have not yet been released, as next of kin notification takes place. An autopsy will be conducted within the next couple of days.
