With Tesla creator Elon Musk so much in the news recently due to his bid to buy Twitter, it will be interesting to see if that inspires additional interest in the eighth annual Sound of Silence Tesla Road Trip Rally scheduled for this weekend in Custer.
So far, about 70 Teslas from all over the country are registered for the event and will be gliding into town over the next several days for a weekend of events and tours of the Black Hills. The event, sponsored by the Custer Area Chamber of Commerce, is the only one of its kind in the U.S. and is responsible for Custer being the home of 30 charging stations—all paid for by the Tesla Corporation.
Rally events begin on Friday when the cars will be on display for viewing and questions from 5-7 p.m. at Mt. Rushmore Brewing Co. on the west end of Washington Street. The chamber will be hosting a social mixer at the Brewing Co. to welcome the Tesla owners to town.
Coinciding with the rally is the Open House and Free Fishing Weekend at Custer State Park, which will no doubt be the site of numerous Tesla cruises to see the newborn buffalo calves.
