Theatre 605 talks upcoming season

Jeff Kingsbury and Kassi Blue-Scates of the Theatre 605 visited the monthly meeting of the Hill City Friends of the Library March 11. 
The pair visited to talk about the upcoming seasons and the recent rebranding the Playhouse has undergone.
“The Black Hills Playhouse has a special place in my heart,”
said Blue-Scates, who was hired as part of the tour team after an audition and now acts as development associate.

Putting on miles for healthy smiles

The Delta Dental Bus is once again set to return to the Hill City School District March 23-27 to provide free oral health services to students.
Delta Dental of South Dakota manages, operates and staffs the 40-foot, fully-equipped, mobile dental clinic that provides preventative, diagnostic and restorative care. 
The Tin City Masonic Lodge has been sponsoring the bus for at least a decade, according to Ron Rossknecht, event coordinator and Master Mason of the Tin City Masonic Lodge.

Foundation grants go to five good causes

The Hill City Area Community Foundation (HCACF) gave out five grants to support community projects March 2 at the Hill City Center.
HCACF has about $750,000 in an account. That dollar amount is not touched, but the interest it accrues goes to fund the grants. 
“That’s a pretty big milestone,” said HCACF board  president Stacia Peters. 
This was the fifth year of giving out grants, and the group has given out nearly $55,000 in grants since its inception. 

Free tax help to be provided

The Stars and Stripes Charitable Alliance is helping people file their taxes at the Hill City Center March  26, April 2 and April 9 at from 12-5 p.m. They will also be at the Keystone Senior Center at noon on Fridays until the tax season ends. 
Paula Cottrell, who is a “personal tax geek,” said the Stars and Stripes Charitable Alliance is a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) registered entity with the IRS. Stars and Stripes can help people in person or remotely. 

Spring is in the air in Hill City

Spring is in the air and the merchants of Hill City are welcoming the change of seasons with an all-day community-wide event to highlight local artists and businesses.
Spring is in the Air will take place March 21 and feature a full day of fashion, art and special promotions across the community.

Mechaleys attend State of the Union

Custer County Sheriff Marty Mechaley, along with wife Jen, got the opportunity of a lifetime Feb. 24 when they were invited by Rep. Dusty Johnson to attend the State of the Union Address (SOTU) in Washington, D.C.
Mechaley said he was at the State Veterans Home in Hot Springs when he got the call from Johnson inviting him to the address. Marty said Johnson told him he could think about it, but Marty said that would not be necessary.
