Postal problems largely unchanged

The slight improvements are limited to mail sent from elsewhere to some parts of the state, and most outbound mail delivery has gotten worse or not changed at all, according to USPS data.
U.S. Sen. Mike Rounds, a South Dakota Republican who's up for re-election this year, has largely led the charge to reform USPS operations in the state.
Beyond the data, he has shared anecdotal evidence indicating the problem is far from solved, even as USPS begins investigating its own performance in South Dakota.

Support Zeimet in her battle with cancer

A local family needs financial support and prayers for good health as they continue a battle against cancer.
Long-time Custer County residents Connie and France Zeimet live west of Pringle on a cattle ranch and are members of the United Methodist Church of Pringle. Connie works for the South Dakota Department of Transportation, and France recently retired from Simon Gravel after 44 years.

A pair of local realtors were recently recognized by the Mount Rushmore Area Association of REALTORS® and its annual awards celebration in Deadwood. These annual awards honor excellence in professionalism, community service and dedication to the real estate industry.
The Good Neighbor Award was presented to Custer’s Andrea Ronning of Aspen+Pine Realty, with the award recognizing years of service that reflect an unwavering commitment to her community and the real estate profession.

 Following two weeks of nationwide voting, Friends of Custer County Search and Rescue (CCSAR) has officially advanced to the Final Two in the 2026 Land Rover Defender Service Awards.
Out of hundreds of non-profit nominees nationwide, CCSAR is now one step away from winning a customized Land Rover Defender 130 rescue vehicle and a financial grant package valued at over $130,000 to serve the Black Hills region.
