Betsy Kahler

Betsy Jane Kahler was born June 14, 1942 in LaPorte, Pa., to Robert D and Jane Crawford Mason.
She passed away Aug. 26, 2026 in Laurel Hill, Fla. She was 84.
Betsy was a Custer, S.D., resident for 28 years and was an educator.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Asher J. Kahler; her parents, Robert D. and Jane Crawford Mason; and her brother, R. Dane Mason.
Besty is survived by her sister, Mary-Carol Mason; her stepchildren, Oliver Kahler and his wife, Kathy; Alicia Kahler and her husband, Curtis; and Allen Kahler and his partner, Brent; two grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; her beloved nieces and nephews and their families; extended family; former students and colleagues; and an extraordinary collection of friends gathered over a lifetime.
A memorial service celebrating Betsy’s life will be held Saturday, Sept. 19, at  11 a.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Laurel Hill. Additional celebrations of Betsy’s life in Pennsylvania and South Dakota are planned for the spring, with details to be announced.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial contributions be made in Betsy’s memory to the Parkinson’s Foundation.
