Boyster wins two golds in Pierre

After having its home meet cancelled last week due to weather and seeing another meet postponed, the Custer High School track team was able to get back on the track in two locations Monday when part of the team headed to Pierre for the American Legion Relays while others headed north to the Northern Hills Invitational in Belle Fourche.
Blake Boyster led the boys’ charge to a sixth-place team finish with a pair of wins, as he won the gold medal in the 100 at a time of 10.93 while also winning the 200 at 22.45. The other gold medal for the boys came on the legs of the medley relay team, as Danny Immormino, Cade Lehman, Alex Van Horn and Drew Lehman combined to post a time of 3:43.53.
The girls team had four gold medals, including Jojo Larsen in the 200 at a time of 27.01, Ramsey Karim in the 3200 at 11:35.83, Ciana Stiefel in the pole vault at 11-0 and Alice Sedlacek in the discus with a top distance of 121-5.
Kincade Lehman had the lone second-place finish for the boys, placing second in the triple jump with a best leap of 41-11 3/4.
Gage Grohs picked up a third-place finish in the 3200 at 10:13.45, and Sam Gaulke, Drew Lehman, Van Horn and Boyster teamed up for a third place finish in the 1600 relay at 3:34.22.
Carter Tennyson was the team’s lone individual fifth-place finisher, as he cleared 5-8. A pair of relay teams also placed fifth, as Landon Leighton, Roland Sedlacek, Immormino and Boyster combined to post a time of 1:34.79, and the 400 team of Leighton, Carter Boyster, Kai Rusch and Mical Grace ran a time of 48.91.
Sixth-place finishes came from Gaulke in the 400 at 53.12, Jackson Wiles in the 800 at 2:09.12 and Colton Coppola in the shot put with a best throw of 46-0.
The 3200 relay team of Dylan Frank, Saylor Rice, Kody Marshall and Tyler Cooper placed seventh at 9:54.16, as did Mical Grace in the 110 hurdles at 17.35.
The Wildcat boys picked up three eighth-place finishes, including Immormino in the 100 at 11.64, Cade Lehman in the 200 at 25.17 and Joel Tramp in the pole vault with a top height of 11-0.
On the girls side in Pierre, Brit Wheeler had the only silver medal for Custer, finishing behind Karim in the 3200 at a time of 12:01.99.
A third-place finish came from Torri Virtue in the discus with a best throw of 110-5, and Virtue was fourth in the shot put with a top throw of 36-8 1/2. Other fourth-place finishes included Avari Dorrance in the discus at 110-4, Addie Sandie in the pole vault at 8-6 and the 800 relay team of Kiran Pesicka, Mattea Marshall, Keira Thorp and Hailey Woodward at a time of 10:37.88.
The 400 relay team of Kylee Ellerton, Rachel Miklos, Maya Tennyson and Larsen was fifth at 52.84, and sixth-place finishes came from the 1600 relay team of Taylor Busch, Pesicka, Sander and Miklos at 4:24.11, the medley relay team of Tennyson, Sander, Marshall and Woodward at 4:57.09 and Busch in the 400 at 1:04.04.
Paige Fitzler was seventh in the 100 hurdles with a time of 17.27, as was Emily Borkowski in the shot put with a best throw of 34-1 1/2.
Rounding out the placing was eighth-place finishes from Keira Alfson in the 800 at 2:40.22 and Dorrance in the shot put with a best throw of 32-4 1/2.
As a team, the girls finished in fifth place with 96 points.
Of the Wildcats who competed in Belle Fourche, Brook Bennett was the top placewinner, as she grabbed first place in the javelin with a throw of 86-4. Just behind her in second place was teammate Taylor Bland at 74-9.
The Wildcats got another second place from Karyn Ellerton in the discus with a personal record throw of 106-9, and Ellerton also placed third in the discus at 30-9.
Bland was sixth in the shot put with a personal record throw of 28-10 1/2, and Katelyn Nelson set a personal record on her way to sixth place in the discus at 96-2 1/2. Nelson also placed seventh in the javelin at 57-10. Finally, Kylee Pulscher was sixth in the javelin at 64-6.
Saturday the team will hed to Sturgis for the Black Hills Track Classic. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. at Woodle Field.
