Carl Palmer

Carl Palmer was born July 20, 1959 in Sioux Falls, S.D., and spent the majority of his childhood in Arlington, S.D. He attended Arlington High School, and in 1976 enlisted into the Navy.
He was very proud of his military service to his country and loved every minute of the 23 years he spent in the United States Navy. Carl retired as a Senior Chief in 1999 after his military career had stationed him at duty stations such as Japan, San Diego, Calif., Virginia Beach, Va., and Louisiana, to name a few ports. Throughout his career, he loved spending time with the sailors, meeting new people, and experiencing new places.
Carl’s first tour of duty was on the USS Midway and as Navy veterans say, this was his passion tour. He was a lifelong advocate and member of the USS Midway Association.
Carl had a love of the great outdoors, his friendship and sense of humor will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Carl, beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, friend, and proud retired Naval Engineman Senior Chief (ENCS), was called home May 21, 2024 at Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, La. He was 64.
Carl is survived by his parents, David and Mary Fish; daughter, Alex Palmer; son, Colt (Megan) Palmer; two sisters, Melodie (Grant) Palmer-Gorton and Tami (Roger) Hall; a brother Todd (Tracy) Fish; dear friend Char Olseth; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles who loved him dearly.
A celebration of life will be held at a future date. A notification will be sent out by the family once the service is scheduled.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the USS Midway Foundation (midway.org/give-join/about-the-foundation/).
Please add a note stating donation made in Carl’s name.
