Custer FCCLA staying busy

The members from the Custer Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) Chapter gathered with fellow members from across Region I - South Dakota FCCLA Meeting. Over 100 members, advisers and guests attended the FCCLA Leadership Conference held at Wall High School Jan. 29. The theme was “Beyond Measure.” members participated in workshops, professional presentations, general sessions, and several other activities.
Members were inspired by keynote speaker Dr. Milton Haar and leadership team workshops. They concluded the meeting by handing off their leaderships positions to the next line of region officers.
During the meeting awards were distributed to members. Chapters also received recognition for their community efforts and their advancements as leaders. STAR event results were announced. Olivia Wilkins (eighth grade) and Sonja Olson (eighth grade) competed with a professional presentation and received a gold and advanced to the State competition. Quinn Lewison (eighth grade) competed with a professional presentation virtually and received a gold and advanced to the state competition.
Members who advance to the state level of competition will journey to Sioux Falls for the State FCCLA Leadership Conference April 18-20.  
FCCLA was first established in 1945.  FCCLA was chartered in South Dakota in 1946.  FCCLA is the only youth-led organization with the family as its central focus. This career-technical student organization prepares youth to assume adult roles in society as wage earners, community leaders and caring family members by giving them important life skills needed to thrive in their families, careers and communities.  
Members learn how to be active community leaders, caring family members, and prepare for life beyond high school.
