The Black Hills Conference Track and Field meet was one of the remaining opportunities for the Rangers to qualify for state competition. Overall Coach Joe Noyes said he was “really pleased” with the boys and girls track teams performance.
“Every week they show up and they compete at the highest level,” Noyes said.
Seth Knutson, Caleb Sobolik, Willie Walther and Devin Buehler crushed the competition in the medley relay event with a flat 3:52 time, well over one minute stronger than the second place team. The medley relay is an across the board opportunity to show the well-rounded nature of a team with both sprinters and distance runners being showcased.
“The boys ran awesome. The goal was  to get a qualifying time for the state,” Noyes said, who believes that based on their success this week will qualify. The girls have already qualified and are ranked third in medley in the state.
Senior Whitney Edwards scored a personal record in the discus throw with a 109-8, placing third for the Rangers.
“Whitney has improved almost 12 feet this year in her discus,” Noyes said. “She really showed up and turned a corner her senior year.”
Also at the conference meet, Abby Cutler took third in the 3200 meter with a time of 11:50:95.
