"Read 1,000 books before kindergarten"

Families are invited to join the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program at Hill City Public Library. The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is a nationwide challenge that encourages parents and caregivers to regularly read aloud to their children.

By reading just one book a night, families can reach the 1,000-book goal in three years and provide their children essential early literacy skills.

Research shows that the most reliable predictor of school success is being read to during early childhood. Reading to children from an early age can help close the vocabulary gap and prepare children to enter kindergarten with the skills they need to succeed. Most importantly, sharing books with children promotes a lifelong love of books and reading.

The 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program is available to all families with children between the ages of birth and 5. Registration is open. For more information, call the library at  574-4529, or stop in and ask a librarian.

"Friends to host mayor"

The Friends of the Hill City Library invites the public to meet and hear Hill City Mayor Kathy Skorzewski speak at the Wednesday, Nov. 13 meeting at 10:15 a.m. in the Super 8 conference room.

The mayor will review city initiatives and provide updates on current projects.  There will also be an opportunity to ask questions.

Refreshments will be provided and a business meeting will follow the guest speaker.

The Hill City Public Library will host an Open House Thursday, Nov. 7 starting at 6 p.m. in the new “Kid’s Annex.”  The public is welcome to visit the new programming space behind the library building.  Refreshments will be available.
