Janet Linde
Janet Elaine Linde was born March 16, 1930, in Corson County, S.D., to Walter and Bernice Chase.
She had three children, Eugene (Geno) Ralph Dahl, Arlin Ray Dahl and Niki Lee (Dahl) Woodward.
Jan married Robert E. “Bob” Linde of Custer, S.D., March 7, 1968, in Edgemont, S.D., where Jan worked for the newspaper. The couple moved to Custer, S.D., that fall where Bob and his family had a three-generation sawmill. Jan again worked for the newspaper, which she thoroughly enjoyed. She had her own columns in both newspapers, which everyone got a kick out of.
They made their home in Custer for all but the last two years of their 51 years of marriage when, because of Jan’s health, they moved to Scottsdale, Ariz., with her daughter Niki.
Jan was known for her love of people, her smile and her great sense of humor. Even with the tragedies in her life, she never quit laughing and enjoying life.
Her love for life, family and friends brought much happiness to all of her grandchildren, nieces and nephews who all lovingly knew her as “Gramma Jan.” Jan and Bob had company for every occasion possible but there didn’t have to be a reason in Jan’s mind for company. She also loved to sew, cook and garden, she made beautiful quilts and had too many hobbies to even list.
Every Christmas was spent by the entire family at “The 100 Acre Woods” in Custer, so appropriately named by her grand-niece, Summer.
Jan died Aug. 29, 2019, in Scottsdale. She was 89.
She was the eldest daughter of nine children and was preceded in death by her sons, Geno and Arlin; parents, Walt and Bernice; sister, Carol Fuhrer; and brother, Bob.
Jan is survived by her husband, Bob; daughter, Niki of Scottsdale; grandson, Dakota Dahl of Cheyenne, Wyo.; granddaughter, Rachel Rodriguez of Burlington, Colo.; greatgrandchildren, Remo and Casper Rodriguez; brothers, Wayne Chase of Rapid City, S.D., Jack Chase of Alamogordo, N.M., and Jerry Chase of Mobridge, S.D.; and sisters Betty Yuly of Mobridge, S.D., Gladys Knodel of Spearfish, S.D., and Peggy Waddell of Mobridge.
