The library is open! Our hours are Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Please enter at the north door by the book drop. Please put all returns in the book drop because we are quarantining library material for a minimum of three days. We are asking that masks be worn and that you use the provided hand sanitizer.

The Kids Summer Reading Contest started June 8. We are only in the third week of prizes, so it is not too late to join in the fun! The Kids Summer Reading contest will end July 19. The last weekly prize is Monday, July 20, and we would like all the completed Reading Logs turned in so we can announce the Grand Prize winners Tuesday, July 21.

The Hill City Public Library is hosting two programs this summer at the Hill City Boys & Girls Club. On July 7 at 10 a.m. Delacina Chief Eagle, a Lakota-style hoop dancer, will perform.

On July 28 at 10 a.m. Markie Schultz will perform her puppet show, Dragons are Too Seldom. If you plan to attend please enter the Boys & Girls Club gym at the door across form the tennis courts. Social distancing and hand sanitizing will be in effect.

We have had a steady flow of wonderful book donations. If anyone is interested in purchasing books, please stop at the library during business hours and a librarian will be glad to assist you. There will be a book sale at the library Saturday, July 18 starting at 9 a.m. and ending at 4 p.m.

The library has items we no longer have need of. We have two brown barrel chairs, several maple wood dining chairs and empty DVD cases. Stop in at the library or give us a call if you want these items or have questions.

We are very excited to announce that we have a new member on our library team. Please take a minute and stop in to meet and welcome Shelly. We are planning fun and exciting things for the future.

The Storytime program will begin Wednesday, July 8, 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the library’s Kid’s Annex. The public is welcome to join in to hear stories and participate in fun activities.

The Book Club will meet Tuesday, July 28, at 5:30 p.m. at the library; if it is nice maybe we can sit outside (bring your own camp chair) to discuss: “The Good Liar,” “Arthur Trulov,” “The Huntress” and “Where the Crawdads Sing.” The next Book Club meeting is planned for Sept. 29 to discuss your favorite summer read. The time will be announced.

I look forward to seeing each and every one of you at your Hill City Public Library.
