The Rangers golf team kicked off the postseason in style by winning its fourth consecutive Region 6 Championship May 21 at the Hart Ranch Golf Course. The Rangers finished with a team total of 236, which was 10 better than runner-up Wall.
“Wow, winning the region this year was one of our preseason goals, and we knew this would be an extremely tough test due to the quality of teams in our region,” said coach Josh Daiss. “Wall, Philip, Timber Lake and White River all have great golfers, and it’s a testament to our kids’ grit and hard work that we were able to win it.”
Breylon Rahn was the individual Region 6 champion after a round of one over par 73. This is the first time in school history that a boy’s Ranger golfer has achieved that honor.
“Brey taking home medalist honors is the cherry on top. He has put in a ton of time on the golf course, and his hard work paid off,” said Daiss.
Leyton Thayer tied for sixth by firing an 80. Zane Messick followed in ninth with an 83 and Max Rupert rounded out the Rangers scoring with a 96. The team will head to the Brookings Country Club May 30 to prepare for the state tournament, which is held June 1-2.
“We have been knocking on the door at state for the last couple of seasons by finishing ninth in 2023, sixth in 2024 and fourth last year,” said Daiss. “Our goal is to keep climbing the ladder and we believe we have the talent to compete for a state title if we continue to play well.”
