The Hill City Rangers golf team is 2023 Region 6B champion.
The team captured the region 6B championship at Hart Ranch outside of Rapid City May 22 for the first  time in school history.  The Rangers edged out the Wall Eagles and White River Tigers by six strokes.
Leo Daiss led the Rangers by finishing in the number four spot after carding a round of 87. David Hubacher followed in fifth with an 88. Zane Messick was eighth with a 90 and Breylon Rahn fired a 91 to finish in 12th.
“At the beginning of the season, we had a team meeting and the kids set the goal of winning the region this season,” said coach Josh Daiss. “Wall was at least the two-time defending champion, so we knew it wouldn’t be easy, but our kids played with confidence and were able to get it done.  It’s been nice to know we have the capability to pick each other up when one kid is having an off day and have proven that by winning team titles with three different players leading in scoring this season.”
Hill City will now travel to the Prairie Winds Golf Club in Watertown for the State Tournament June 5-6 where they hope to make some noise.
“I feel like we are a bit off the radar as the scores from Hart Ranch will be a bit higher than the other regional sites due to the difficulty,” Daiss said. “ There is no doubt in my mind that if we can get everyone going at the same time, we have the ability to compete with anyone in the state.  We have a great group of kids who are looking forward to representing Hill City proudly regardless of how we finish out east in a couple of weeks.”
