Shari Mattson
Shari Lee Mattson was born Sept. 20, 1974, in Rapid City, S.D., to Eric and Judy Mattson.
The Mattson family moved to Gillette, Wyo., shortly after her birth. She was joined by two brothers, Todd and Toby. Shari attended elementary and high school in Gillette; Casper, Wyo.; Sioux City, Iowa; and graduated high school in Wakefield, Neb.
After graduation she moved back to Gillette, where she lived for several years. She then lived in Rapid City for the past several years where she was living at the time of her death. She enjoyed music, singing, drawing and painting, writing poetry, jigsaw puzzles and playing Scrabble with her mom and aunts.
Shari passed away Aug. 23, 2024, after battling heart disease and kidney disease for the past several years. She was 49.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eric; brother, Todd; paternal grandparents, Clarence and Myrtle Mattson; maternal grandfather, James Halley lV; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
Shari is survived by her mother, Judy Dalton; stepfather, Steve Dalton, brother, Toby Mattson; stepbrother, Porter Dalton; grandmother, Lois Halley, niece, Hayley Mattson; and several cousins, aunts and uncles.
A graveside service for family and friends was held Friday, Aug. 30 at 11 a.m. at the Hill City (S.D.) Cemetery with a luncheon following at First Congregational Church of Keystone, S.D.
In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made the Cornerstone Rescue Mission in Rapid City.
