Sheryl Spooner

Sheryl Lyn Spooner was born Aug. 17, 1981 in Custer County, S.D.
Sheryl attended school and graduated Custer (S.D.) High School, class of 1999.  She was very athletic and involved in several sports including wrestling, volleyball, basketball, softball and most recently she joined the Jefferson Rowing Team.  She made any athletic activity look easy and earned many awards and medals. She loved coaching youth teams.
Sheryl drove train for Burlington Northern in Wyoming before moving to Wisconsin. She was most recently a supervisor for Jatitude Graphics in Madison, where she was employed for 20 years. She married Tarrah Spooner July 13, 2012 and gained a step-son Jackson. She loved taking on the roll as an extra mom.
Sheryl was best known for her fun sense of adventure, and her contagious outgoing personality.  Her compassion toward others was truly an inspiration.
She was adored as “Auntie Shrl” to many nieces and nephews, all of which held a very special place in her heart. She made as many trips back to the Black Hills of South Dakota as possible to spend time with them.
Sheryl, of Jefferson, Wis., passed away Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2024 as a result of a motor vehicle accident. She was 42.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Robert Redden.
Sheryl is survived by her spouse, Tarrah; son, Jackson Smith of Jefferson; mother, Teresa (Carldean) Erickson of Mission, S.D.; father Phil (Ann) Schutt of Moorcroft, Wyo.; grandfathers, John Tanner and George West, both of Edgemont, S.D.; siblings, Michael (Kristain) Schutt of Gillette, Wyo., Amanda (Steven) Blume of Custer, and Daniel (Danya) Schutt of Moorcroft; and many step-brothers and sisters from Wyoming and South Dakota.  
A graveside service will take place July 18 at Cold Springs Cemetery in Custer County at 4 p.m. with the Custer High School Class of 1999 as honorary pallbearers.
Following the service please join us by car or UTV for a memorial drive up Needles Highway.
Arrangements have been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer.
