The Heart of the Hills is featuring several community events Sept. 17.
The day begins with the Hill City annual rummage sale from 8 a.m to 2 p.m. The fundraiser is an opportunity to begin the holiday shopping season, find an unusual antique or gift, or just support a good local cause.
In the evening, the Hill City Lions Club is hosting its monthly bingo game in the Boys & Girls Club.
The Lions Club will once again donate proceeds to the Hill City Ambulance District and the other funds go toward the Club’s community service.
The Lions Club will serve food beginning at 5 p.m. with bingo play starting at 6 p.m.
Bingo cards start at just $1.00 and there will also be a 50-50 drawing.
The city’s first end of season celebration, entitled Hilltoberfest, also takes place Sept. 17 from 6 p.m. - 10 p.m outside the Hill City Center, steps away from Lions Club Bingo.
Hilltoberfest will feature German food from the Alpine Inn and adult beverages courtesy of the Mangy Moose.
The evening will also include a street dance. According to Mayor Kathy Skorzewski, the same committee that puts together the Star Spangled Saturday came up with the idea of a street dance, and from that Hilltoberfest was born.
Hilltoberfest is a way to “pull people out of their houses” and celebrate the end of the season with some community camaraderie, Skorzewski said.
There is no admission charge and the event is family-friendly. Proceeds from this event also benefit the Hill City Ambulance District.
