Custer County is about to get spooky with witches, ghosts and zombies wandering the streets, along with some princesses and cartoon characters. Halloween is fast approaching, and with it comes a shower of candy and family-friendly events.
Kicking off the festivities in Custer is a Haunted House at The Armory Thursday, Oct. 30 and Friday, Oct. 31 from 7-9 p.m. The Haunted House is open to all ages at the discretion of parents. There is a $5 entry fee, and all proceeds go to support the Custer Jr/Sr High School wrestling team.
After that, the Halloween fun heads downtown with three more events Oct. 31.
The Merchants’ Trick-or-Treat is taking place in downtown Custer from 4-6 p.m. Community members are encouraged to dress up in their favorite costumes and enjoy a night full of trick-or-treating fun, treats, community and Halloween cheers.
Currently, the participating merchants include McGas, Edward Jones—Kris Zerbe and Jared Slagle, Miners Cup, Gold Pan/Calamity Jane’s, Subway, Black Hills Parks and Forest Association, Custer Dental Studio, Good Karma, Quilted Buffalo, Rocket Motel, South Dakota Outdoor Shop, Custer County Library, Black Hills Burger and Pizza, Buglin Bull, Pizza Mill, Custer County Senior Citizens Center, Custer County Chronicle, Skogen Kitchen, Highmark Federal Credit Union, Western Skies Real Estate, Petals & Pages, Highmark Credit Union, Black Hills Federal Credit Union and First Interstate Bank.
From there, families can head to the Classic Car Trunk or Treat from 4-6 p.m., presented by Custer State Farm and S&B Motor Parts, located at 700 Mount Rushmore Road. This is a twist on the normal Show & Shine event. Participants are invited to bring their classic car to the event along with candy for the trick-or-treaters. There are no registration fees for this event, and costumes are encouraged.
Another trunk or treat is happening at Sentinel Federal Credit Union from 4-7 p.m. as well. Everyone is welcome to stop by the parking lot for a treat.
Meanwhile, over in Hermosa, Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is inviting community members from near and far to bring their decorated vehicles and hand out treats at a trunk or treat from 5-6:30 p.m. Oct. 31. Attendees can enjoy hot dogs fresh off the grill and treats from community members.
Then, at the Hermosa Arts and History Association (HAHA), attendees can get candy on the front porch of the museum from 4:30 to 7 p.m. and get their pictures taken. All ages are welcome.
