Twenty-eight businesses in Hill City are participating in this year’s Tour de Chocolate, which falls on Valentine’s Day this year. The annual event is in its 14th year and features some of the best free chocolate tastings as well as lots of sweet drink specials.
Truffles are the name of the game, with a huge variety being offered up and down Main Street all the way to Three Forks. Truffle varieties include hand- dipped peanut butter, dark whiskey, cheesecake, French cocoa, dark chocolate stout, oreo and raspberry, all of which can be found in this year’s Tour de Chocolate.
Also on the tour this year are loads of drink specials from mulled wine to wine and beer pairings, special chocolate cocktails and even a fancy hot chocolate. Those looking for more density from their sweet treats can try chocolate in the biscotti, cookie, bark, fudge, brownie, cake, bean, waffle cone and pretzel form. People can even find chocolate covered popcorn and a chocosaurus on the touring menu. Deviled eggs, seat salt caramels and chocolate hearts round out the Tour de Chocolate menu.
“Come enjoy the yum,” said Erica Layton, executive director of the Hill City Area Chamber of Commerce. “It’s a unique, fun way for couples, families and friends to get out to enjoy some fresh mountain air in a festive Valentine’s atmosphere while sampling free exotic chocolates and exploring and supporting our local business community.”
The tour starts as early as 7 a.m Feb. 14 for some businesses, but the treats continue all day and into the evening with loads of food specials, discounts and of course chocolate.
