We got the Homecoming beat

Even though the theme is “We got the beat,” Homecoming 2020 will definitely have an off-beat feel. Because of COVID-19 there has been a shakeup of the schedule for the music-themed homecoming week Oct. 5-9 and several traditional events will be moved out of doors, weather permitting.
School will be in session Monday through Friday that week and will feature daily dress-up days at all schools.
Monday’s dress-up theme is “Thrift Shop” with students encouraged to wear mis-matched attire. That evening at 7 the coronation of homecoming royalty will take place at Wildcat Stadium rather than the high school theatre. The coronation will be moved to the Armory in case of inclement weather.
On Tuesday the theme is “Surfin’ USA” and students  are encouraged to dress up for fun in the sun.
Workout clothes will be in fashion Wednesday when the theme is “Let’s Get Physical.” Students will also be able to pay a dollar for a piece of tape to help tape an administrator to the wall.
The theme for Thursday is “Fancy” and students will dress to the hilt in “preppy” attire.
Of course Friday is the biggest day of the week for homecoming. Theme for the day is “Burn the House Down” and students are encouraged to wear purple and gold.
The day begins at 7:50 a.m. with jr./sr. high students checking into Wildcat Time for attendance.
At 8 a.m. busses will begin transporting students to Wildcat Stadium (weather permitting) for the day’s activities. The bus schedule is: 8 a.m. band students; 8:15, 11th and 12th grades; 8:30, ninth and 10th grades and at 8:45, seventh and eighth grades.
The annual lip sync competition between classes takes place from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by the float-building competition and class wars in the stadium parking lot from 10:30 to noon.
From noon to 1 p.m., there will be an all-school picnic and lunch accounts will be charged.
The homecoming pep rally and senior games start at 1 p.m. and run until 2:30 p.m.
At 2:15 p.m. elementary students will board busses to be taken to the homecoming parade lineup area. The parade down Mt. Rushmore Road starts at 2:45 p.m.
Following the parade, students get a bit of a break before the homecoming football game against the visiting Lead-Deadwood Golddiggers which starts at 6 p.m. The ceremonial burning of the “C” will take place at halftime of the game and homecoming royalty will be introduced at that time as well.
The culmination of the day and week will be the homecoming dance and 5th Quarter party at Mt. Rushmore Brewing Co. from 9 to 11:30 p.m.
