Welcome to another school year

Did you see that thing that blinked as you went by? That was our summer!
OK, technically, it’s still summer. But for all intents and purposes for a majority of people, the summer is over, as school has begun in many states and school districts and is firing up in the not-to-distant future for many people. Here in the Custer School District, as you are reading this, the kids in the school district are in their first day back in the classroom. It’s the first of hundreds of days that includes many concerts, sporting events and plenty of learning. For many it’s a bittersweet time, as the freedom and warm weather of summer is slowly picked away at by a busy schedule, cold weather and less and less daylight.
For one class of students, they are beginning their final year of high school. Yes, the Custer High School Class of 2023 has officially begun its last year of school. The year will be full of “lasts,” whether it be your last basketball game, your last prom, your last English class—you name it. Be sure you take it all in and enjoy your last year of high school. While high school can seem tough at times, some day you’ll look back in a way you can’t even imagine now how easy you had it during those high school years.
Yet more students are beginning the exciting adventure that is college. For the next four years (and in some cases more), you’ll learn so much about yourself, about life, about time management and about what you want your future to look like. You’ll lay the foundation for what your working life will look like, as well as for the successes you’ll see down the road. There will be plenty of bumps along the way, but don’t give up and always remember to balance your life out by making time to have fun. Studying is important yes, but so is making time to let your hair down.
If we could give one word of advice to every student who is embarking on college it would be this—beware the trap of racking up too much debt. Throughout your freshman year you will be inundated with plenty of requests for credit card offers and things of that nature. Take it from us, you don’t need to accept every credit card offer that is thrown your way. At the end of it all what you’ll mostly have is massive debt with little to show for it besides pizza, clothes you probably didn’t need and maybe even something of a beer belly.
We also want to welcome back the hard working staff of the Custer School District, from the custodial staff to the superintendent. You are what make the school district work, and everyone involved is important. To our new staff members, welcome to the Custer School District! We think you’ll find it’s a great place to be employed.
Here’s to the next eight months of learning and fun. We have no doubt it will go quickly, and we’ll be here next year welcoming the next wave of students. In the meantime let’s enjoy the ride.
