What a school year!

What a year! The story of this year actually begins last March when COVID-19 caused school to close down. We came together as a school family to provide distance learning as best we could. In the course of days, we recreated the educational process. We focused on “Controlling the Controllables”.

During the summer of 2020, we had Zoom meetings and stakeholder surveys to determine the direction of this school year. Over 95 percent of our stakeholders stated they wanted to be back in school. This made the objective for the administrative team very clear: Find a way to have our students on campus, in person, five days per week while still maintaining a safe environment.

We cleaned, we implemented new processes, we emphasized good hygiene, we encouraged masking when social distancing wasn’t possible and we asked people to stay home if they were minimally ill.

As a result, I am proud to report that we did it! Not only did we survive the school year, but I believe we thrived this year. We showed solidarity and unity this year. We were the number one ranked school according to US News and World Report. We won a state cross country title, we made the state volleyball tournament, we hosted band and choir concerts, we designed Christmas ornaments that hung on the White House Christmas tree, we had a gold level school board, we offered after school academies and we stuck together as a team.

I am blessed to serve as superintendent in this school and community. I want to offer a heartfelt thank you to all of our stakeholders. We have intelligent and hard-working students. We have amazing and dedicated educators. We have supportive and loving parents. We have an involved and encouraging community.

In closing, congratulations to everyone on a wonderful year. I hope our students and educators have a great summer. I hope our community is proud of our standard of excellence and views us as a good return on your investment. Thank you for being on the same team with the same goal: the best education for our kids!
