Wildcat golfers third at home meet

Led by Regan Sorenson’s 91, the Custer High School golf team played its way to a third-place finish at its final home meet of the season last Friday morning at Rocky Knolls Golf Course.
The Wildcats finished with a team score of 380. The meet was won by Spearfish, which ended with a team score of 323. The Spartans also boasted the medalist for the meet, as Charlie Rasmussen fired a round of 71 over the course of the 18-hole tournament.
Jackson Wiles finished just behind Sorenson for the Wildcats, as he posted a 92. Lane Poper had the third-best score for the Wildcats at 98, followed by Kolby Riley’s 99, Curtis Sorenson’s 109 and Tayden Pechota’s 120.
On Sept. 6 the Wildcats were at Boulder Canyon Country Club outside of Sturgis for the Black Hills Invitational, hosted by Sturgis.
Wiles paced the team at the meet, firing a score of 90. He was followed by Regan Sorenson, who shot a 93, and Lane Poper, who finished at 97. Tayden Pechota rounded out the top five for the Wildcats with his 117.
The Wildcats took seventh as a team at the meet, with a score of 383. Spearfish won the team championship, finishing at 321, while Parker Reede of Spearfish won medalist honors with his round of 74.
The Wildcats are next in action Tuesday when they travel to Prairie Ridge Golf Course in Box Elder for the Black Hills Conference Meet, hosted by Douglas. The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
