Lois Rose McVey, 91, of Hill City, died Tuesday, April 1, 2025. Friends and family are invited to a vigil service at St. Rose of Lima Church at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 10, 2025.  A Christian Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 11 at the church. Phil Geenen

Phil Geenen was born in October 1945, in Chicago, Ill., to George and Frances (Wnukowski) Geenen. He graduated from Fenger High School in 1963 and attended Chicago State University on the southeast side of Chicago. He received his bachelor’s degree in college for Biology and Education.
Phil met the love of his life at an A&W Root Beer stand in Blue Island, Ill. He pulled up in his 1964 GTO and a 57-year romance began.

Ella Goldammer

Ella Edith Goldammer was born Nov. 29, 1928, in Mitchell, S.D.  Her parents were Frank and Gertie (Hillerns) Gocken.  She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Mitchell.  She received her education in Mitchell area schools.

John Sanders

John Michael Sanders—rancher, engineer, veteran, pilot, politician, 1972 Flood survivor—died Friday, March 21.
John was born Dec. 20, 1954, the oldest child of Ken and Betty Sanders and the oldest grandchild of Harley and Maryn Sanders. The family lived on the Green Mountain Ranch along Bogus Jim Road northwest of Rapid City, S.D., and John learned ranching by following his father on his paint pony, Buddy.

Jeanette Carlin

Jeanette Ursula Carlin was born Sept. 9, 1952, to Patrick Carlin and Mary Opal (Rapp) Carlin.
Shortly after her first grade at Emery, S.D., her family moved to Rapid Valley five miles east of Rapid City, S.D., where she attended elementary school, then high school graduating in 1971.
She married Jerry Edwards Nov. 27, 1971, and to this union two children were born—Jason Dean Edwards and Julie Ann Edwards.
Her hobbies included drawing, painting, singing, photography, carpentry and studying the Bible.

Jerry Lampert

Jerry Jack Lampert, a devoted husband, loving father, and doting grandfather, passed away March 8, 2025, at the age of 82.
Born in Custer, S.D., Jan. 5, 1943, to parents Jack and Dorothy Lampert, Jerry lived a life defined by integrity, service and unwavering dedication to his family.

Wilma Rhoades

Wilma Jean Rhoades, 90, of Custer, S.D., passed away Dec. 7, 2024.  
Memorial services will be held 10 a.m. Friday, April 4 at Living Outreach Church, 25189 US-385, Custer, SD 57730.
Arrangements have  been placed in the care of Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer, SD.

Julie Smith

Julie May Parlin was born Sept. 29, 1953, at Lutheran Hospital in Hot Springs, S.D., to Darrell Joseph Parlin and Helen Ruth McKenzie Parlin. The younger child and only daughter, she completed the family, joining older brother Tom.  She was baptized at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Custer, S.D., Dec. 15, 1957, and remained a lifelong member.

Anjanette Maxfield

It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Anjanette “Angie” Marie (Winkle) Maxfield, a beloved soul whose light touched the lives of everyone she encountered.
Angie peacefully departed this world Jan. 27, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and an unyielding zest for life that will forever be cherished.

Duane Gaulke

Duane Edgar Gaulke, 84, of Hill City, S.D., passed away Feb. 2, 2025, at Monument Health Hospital in Rapid City, S.D.
Duane is survived by his wife, Margaret; son, Duane Jr. “DJ” Gaulke; daughter, Jill Castle; grandchildren, Jackson Caffee, Westin Gaulke and Kaia Castle; brother, David (Judy) Gaulke; sister, Alice Crater;  and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11 a.m., Saturday, Feb. 15, at Chamberlain McColley’s Funeral Home in Custer, S.D.
