Grunendike honored for corralling cats

The cat’s out of the bag. 
Mayor Tana Nichols surprised Terri Grunendike by publicly honoring her with a Certificate of Appreciation at the Hill City Common Council meeting Aug. 26. 
Grunendike is a longtime resident of Hill City, kitchen manager and cook at Lemongrass and the local cat lady. 
“Although sometimes this is a controversial subject, Terri Grunendike has homed and fed over 500 feral cats in our community over the last 15 years,” said Nichols.

Hill City Friends host book sale next weekend

A “Patchwork of Books Sale” will be hosted by the Hill City Friends of the Library Saturday, Sept. 7, and Sunday, Sept. 8, in conjunction with the Quilt Show and Sale. The book sale will be held at the Hill City Public Library garage and the Kids’ Annex from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.  Book sales are the primary fundraiser for the Friends of the Library, and proceeds support Hill City Public Library programming and equipment needs.

Most businesses do something to decorate their windows, but now local businesses and residents can have their windows custom-painted to share a specific message, image, seasonal vibe or more 
In July, Dafna Brown of Keystone posted on the Hill City Happenings Facebook page that she was restarting window painting as a part-time endeavor. Originally, she planned to wait until the fall to start, but she decided to see what the interest was.

The library will be closed Aug. 31-Sept. 2. We hope everyone has a safe and fun Labor Day weekend!
Reminder the library hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The library is closed Sunday.
We are excited to announce that once again the Hill City Public Library and the Hill City Public Library Board of Trustees have met the standards for Exemplary Status for the next three years.  

Meet the new chamber director Sept. 6

Erin Loder will be the new executive director of the Hill City Area Chamber of Commerce. She will join the chamber team in early September. 
According to current executive director Janet Wetovick-Bily, Loder brings a wealth of marketing and chamber experience to the position. Most recently, Loder served as the marketing manager and executive director of the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce.
To welcome Loder to Hill City there will be a special morning meet-and-greet Friday, Sept. 6, from 9-11 am. at the chamber and Visitor Information Center offices.
