Eras begins at grand opening at event center

About 120 people came to the Eras Event Center ribbon cutting and grand opening Feb. 21. The event showcased the capabilities of Eras as a place to hold weddings, parties or retreats and featured an assortment of meats, cheeses, breads, crackers, fresh fruits and decadent desserts catered by Prairie Dog Taproom as well as beers and wines supplied by Cohort Brewery. 

10 years of building student athletes

Hill City Youth Athletics (HCYA) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing a positive sports environment for the youth of Hill City, and it is celebrating 10 years since its founding.
In 2016 a group of motivated parents recognized the need for a consistent, continuous sports program for elementary-aged children in the community according to co-founder Travis Eckert.
The program began with basketball, baseball and softball. Over the past decade, it has expanded to include flag football, volleyball, soccer and even hosts a spring track meet.

Hill City hosts a week of literary fun

The Hill City Elementary School has a full week of fun planned to spark excitement and engagement around reading and literacy.
“Reading and literacy skills are crucial to a child’s development. It is all intertwined: cognitive development, language and vocabulary growth, emotional skills, imagination, empathy, critical thinking, etc.,” said school librarian and event organizer Rachelle Winter.

— Two Hill City businesses and one Keystone business were recognized for outstanding customer service recently by receiving the South Dakota Great Place designation. Prairie Berry and Miner Brewery as well as Pine Rest Cabins of Hill City and Big Thunder Gold Mine in Keystone received the designation ... Hill City qualified four wrestlers for the State Class B wrestling tournament held in Rapid City. They were Hunter Way (126), Braden Weiss (132), Jaxon Johnson (138) and Tanner Davis (220).

Experience Eras at grand opening

A grand opening of the new Eras Event Center  is taking place Feb. 21 from 4-7 p.m.
The venue space sits on the Black Hills Institute (BHI) of Geological Research campus at the former Prairie Berry Winery site. Eras, which is currently open, is where the former Addie Camp Store was located. 
According to a press release, “The creation of the Eras Event Center represents a significant expansion of BHI’s commitment to community engagement and education.

Twenty-eight businesses in Hill City are participating in this year’s Tour de Chocolate, which falls on Valentine’s Day this year. The annual event is in its 14th year and features some of the best free chocolate tastings as well as lots of sweet drink specials.
