— While the weather outside was gloomy, the mood inside Gins’ Gym in Hill City was beaming as 40 Hill City High School seniors were eagerly waiting to become the next graduates of the school at the 98th commencement exercises of the Hill City School District. The ceremony started off with a grand entrance of all the seniors led by none other than Smokey Bear — Hill City’s mascot — as the Hill City High School band performed “Pomp and Circumstance.” Erica Houser was the valedictorian, and Taleigh Adrian was the salutatorian.

‘Old-Fashioned’ theme for Yard and Landscape of the Month

The Hill City Evergreen Garden Club Yard and Landscape of the Month (YLOTM) feature is gearing up for another year of sunshine and flowers. 
Every summer the residential and commercial gardens of Hill City serve as a source of delight for visitors. These displays encourage visitors to pause in front of shops or sit on a bench surrounded by flowers. 
“The storefronts all become a part of a colorful, attractive series of one shop after another, all expressing themselves with flowers,” said Peg Nervig, YLOTM committee member.

Ron Walker publishes debut book

Hill City has a new author in town, and the public can purchase an autographed copy of his debut book May 11 at Jon Crane Gallery & Custom Framing. Many residents will likely already know the author since Ron Walker has served as a pastor at the Little White Church (LWC) and as a planning & zoning commissioner.
After 25 years working on the project, Walker’s book, “Park Song: Personal Encounters with the Natural World in Custer State Park,” was published and released.
